The tool captures the vehicle VIN and generates a detailed battery pack status report. An on-screen automatic verification feature provides notification the battery is properly connected, and procedures can begin. Using various cables and adapters a battery pack can be properly and safely discharged. The discharge rate is closely monitored and regulated during the process based on measuring the cell temperatures using the battery’s internal sensors. This ensures no excessively rapid discharging and cell overheating. Once discharged, the pack can be diagnosed and serviced as required. Using the tool, the full pack assembly can then be fully recharged at the OE-specified rate. If replacement of just a module or certain modules is required, the tool will also balance the new module(s) to elevate, match, and level the voltage outputs of all the modules.
Using specific cables and adapters included with the tool, the Volt, ELR, Spark EV, Bolt EV, CT6 PHEV, C/K Truck BAS3, and Malibu/LaCrosse HEV4 battery packs can be discharged, recharged, and, if the pack design calls for it, module-balanced.
