The pilot bearing or bushing must be drawn evenly into the back of the crankshaft, and the bushing is installed to a specific position. Hammering either into position will damage the crankshaft and thrust bearings. GM-45949 installs the pilot bearing for manual transmission models, and the converter support bushing for automatic models. The bearing or bushing is placed onto GM-45949, and then into the crankshaft bore. Previously Essential GM8433 Puller is attached to the crankshaft using bolts included in GM-45949, and tightened against GM-45949 to install the bearing or bushing.
