The injectors on 6.6L diesels can be very difficult to remove from their bores, especially on high-mileage engines. The injector hold-down bracket has been redesigned for the L5P; the previously essential injector remover, GM-49774, no longer fits the new design. Once the retaining bolt is removed from the hold-down bracket on an injector, GM-51987 is placed into the retaining bolt bore. A socket and extension are placed onto GM-51987 and used to rock GM-51987 and the injector hold-down bracket. Rocking the bracket with GM-51987 unseats the injector, allowing it to come free from its bore. Using unapproved methods can damage the injector or surrounding components.
