On the 6L50 transmission, the upper service bosses have been removed where fixtures for production lifting and service holding have traditionally been attached. This is being done so the 6L50 will fit in the tunnel of a smaller vehicle. The lower service bosses are being retained, but the C-frame shape of the previously essential GM-8763-B Transmission Holding Fixture is too shallow, and the attachment pins will not reach the lower service bosses. GM-48989 has a deeper frame and will enable the bosses to support the transmission for a safe overhaul. The new tool also has a lifting eye integrated in the fixture frame for ease of lifting with a floor crane.
