GM-49122 is used with previously essential GM-48069 to compress the low and reverse clutch spring. The adapter ensures the compression loads are evenly distributed on the low clutch sprag inner race, instead of on the retainer plate. Using only GM-48069 may cause deformation of the retainer plate. GM-49122 fits on the end of GM-48069.
