The pinion seal on Linamar RDMs used in the 2016 Camaro and CT6 models must be installed onto the pinion shaft and into the carrier housing at the same time. Existing seal installers typically pilot on the sealing lips because the flange competes with the seal once it is installed, but this seal seals directly onto the pinion shaft. The flange is installed above the seal, and is not used to seal the RDM. GM-51750 installs the seal correctly and is used in conjunction with the existing drive GM-5590 to position the seal correctly. Unapproved methods may compromise the seal, resulting in a service life that is less than desired.
