When servicing the RDM on the 2014 Corvette, all shim changes are determined by reading the ring gear pattern and making any adjustments based on the initial or current shim. The shims for the side bearings are under the bearing cups, so the cups must be removed and reinstalled without damage to the cup or bore. There is very limited clearance under the cups, and the case or cover casting effectively places the cups in "blind holes." GM-51255 will expand into the bearing cup, and is used with the GM-45124 puller bridge to remove the cup from the bore to adjust the shim. Unapproved methods will damage the cup or bore.
