The axle input flange used on upcoming Omega and Camaro axles (RDMs) will be retained to the drive pinion by a snap ring instead of a nut, the splines will have a helical twist, resulting in increased installation force. The flange cannot be hammered or driven into position, or the bearings will be damaged, and the RDM will have to be replaced. GM-51263 allows the flange to be drawn into position on the pinion without any force being applied to the bearings. The jaws of GM-51263 engage the groove around the centering pilot on the pinion, and its sleeve is tightened around the jaws to prevent them from leaving the groove. The installation tube of GM-51263 is placed over the stud, & the supplied hardware is used to seat the installer and flange without contacting any qualified surfaces of the pinion, and with no external forces on the bearings. Additional installation jaws will be developed to work for the Omega transfer case rear output flange. This procedure will be required for transfer case rear output shaft seal service. Unapproved methods will damage the RDM or transfer case.
