GM-50905 is an arbor fixture with two air passages that is specially machined to fit both the 8L45 and 8L90 23468 and 45678 clutch packs to apply air pressure to the pack assemblies for travel checks. The clutch pack is set onto GM-50905-1 Fixture and the assembly is placed in the counter bore on the bottom plate of GM-50900 Clutch Travel Support Fixture. The GM-50900 Forcing Screw is turned until the GM-50903 Load Gauge reads the proper load for the clutch pack assembly. This flattens the pack assembly and forces out any air trapped between the discs and backing plates.
The GM-8001 Dial Indicator is attached to the GM-50900 Fixture and the indicator plunger is positioned on the pack and set to zero. Air at shop pressure is then fed into one of two ports in the GM-50905. The travel dimension shown on the dial indicator is checked and compared to the SI specification. The proper thickness of the selective retaining ring is then installed into the clutch hub to retain the pack disc assembly.
