GM-52088 is used to size the turbine shaft rear seal on the transmission input shaft assembly. This seal is solid Teflon. The seal is only 1/2 inch from the end of the shaft and does not go over any grooves in the shaft before reaching its own groove, so the protector and pusher traditionally required for solid seals are not required in this instance. The seal can be pushed on and into its groove by hand. GM-52088 then slides over the seal and the tool’s tapered ID gradually compresses the seal into the groove. The sizer remains on the seal to keep it compressed until final assembly.
