The Active Fuel Injector Tester (AFIT) is needed to address two current issues. Improve the accuracy of diagnostics for the new AFIM (Air Fuel Imbalance Monitor) system, which is required due to increasing CARB regulations, and enhance the accuracy of current service procedures to reduce misdiagnosis of existing fuel systems. Current service tools and SI procedures, which utilize a pressure gauge and the Tech 2, are insufficient in diagnosing these systems with sufficient accuracy to determine the root cause of the drivability issue. Needless replacement of injectors occurs if not diagnosed correctly.
GM-47976 replaces the current service tools and procedures. This new device utilizes a microprocessor and software program to completely automate the test procedure, eliminating variations in test results caused by technician testing methods or physical property changes in the fuel.
