Currently, the aluminum lower control arms must be replaced to service the lower ball joint. The cast iron ball joint replacement requires seating the ball joint while swaging the lower rim to lock it into the control arm. GM-49240-A is used with GM-41805 (Installer, Ball Joint) to remove and install the ball joint on both cast iron and aluminum control arms, and to swage the ball joint into position. Once the technician removes the existing swage marks, the ball joint is driven out using the supplied adapter and GM-41805. The new ball joint is installed using the adapter and seated into GM-41805, while the swage adapter seats and swages the ball joint. A short forcing screw for GM-41805 is provided for clearance, allowing repairs to be performed on the vehicle rather than on the bench.
