The fuel systems on some 2016 vehicles will now have a digital S.E.N.T. (Single Edge Nibble Transmission) fuel rail pressure sensor. GM-47976-507 is a connector adapter featuring molded-in internal active circuits and a D-to-A signal conversion processor, enabling the AFIT SIDI Adapter Cables to function and test the injectors and fuel system on vehicles equipped with the SENT system.  The Adapter converts the fuel pressure digital signal coming from the SENT transducer into an analog signal, which the AFIT can interpret and use for fuel system performance analysis and test results. 

Due to the D-to-A signal conversion requirement, a new piece of hardware is needed. A software update alone will not work.  Once the Adapter is connected to the DMU, it makes the DMU compatible with both SENT and non-SENT fuel pressure transducers, allowing it to remain connected permanently to the DMU.
