The steering knuckle must be supported in a hydraulic press when installing the kingpin on HiPer Strut applications. The kingpin is pressed into position through the upper and lower portions of the knuckle, and through the center of the ball joint link (aka kingpin bushing or revolute joint). The centerline of the kingpin is not perpendicular to the wheel bearing bore, and if the kingpin is not pressed in straight, the knuckle can be damaged. Some knuckles also have a seal wall that prevents a straight-through support. GM-51692 is angled to match the ID of the wheel bearing bore and notched to clear the seal bore wall, allowing the knuckle to be positioned correctly to receive the kingpin. GM-51692 supports the knuckle while clearing any seal wall, even on applications with stepped diameter bores.
