Full-size Express and Savana vans have coil springs in the front suspension with 4-1/2”-5” IDs, depending on the GVW. Commercially available coil spring compressors do not fit these coils well. GM-52078 features two plates that accommodate both 4-1/2” and 5” ID coils, enabling the use of a larger, heavy-duty drive rod with an integrated upper plate drive. Both plates are inserted into the spring.
The drive rod is installed through the upper plate and then turned 1/2 turn to seat the drive rod into the upper plate's drive slots. This allows the upper plate to be positioned correctly to compress the spring. Both plates have one side thicker than the other to maintain the engagement on the coils at a squarer angle and ensure a proper fit and precise alignment during spring compression.
